At The Beginning

Back in 1968, a tent trailer distributor named Vern Landey decided to start creating his own RVs. He wanted to create models that had a lightweight design, which would make towing and transportation much easier for the users. He focused on innovative floor plans that better utilized space and made time spent inside the camper more fun. In addition to these features, he kept the price of his Palomino RVs much lower than market rates. 

 

Palomino trailers were first manufactured in Savage, Minnesota but they quickly grew popular with customers and the demand outpaced the production at the initial factory. To keep up with the demand, the company moved to a larger facility in Colon, Michigan. There was an unfortunate fire that destroyed the main production building and office in 1992, but it did nothing to dampen the rate at which Palomino RVs were selling.

 

Company Changes

Once again, as the demand for Palomino trailers soared, the company found that it had to make changes. They opened a 75,000 sq ft production facility in 1998 to satisfy their growing customer base. They took Landley’s original vision to make lightweight models a step further by introducing a line of trailers that were ultra-lightweight. 

 

Vanguard (Palomino’s parent company) was bought by Forest River in 2002. Now Palomino RVs are part of one of the largest RV manufacturers in North America. This further increased their sale and production though they still continued to operate independently of their new parent company. This freedom allowed them to maintain their small business values, like focusing on innovative features and products and providing exceptional customer service to their clients.
