Pop-up campers are an ideal option to travel in comfort and style. They are easy to set up and simple to care for. So, you’ll want to wash and maintain your pop-up camper regularly to make sure it continues to look and perform like it did when it was new. Our experts at Cedar City RV have created this guide, where we have highlighted a few simple tips that you can follow to maintain your camper. If you have more questions or want to upgrade your rig, visit us at our dealership in Lebanon, TN, where we happily welcome our friends from Smithville and Murfreesboro.

1. Wash the Exterior

The exterior of your pop-up camper is made of soft canvas. So, you must treat it with a waterproof and stain-repellent upholstery protector and clean the vinyl using a protective spray. If you must scrub at any tough stains, use a soft-bristled brush on the patches and rinse the areas with water. More importantly, dry your camper before you fold it up and store it.

2. Clean Inside

While cleaning the inside of your camper, remember to use mild cleaning solutions only. They will clean the canvas and protect it from damage, too. While you’re at it, wipe down all the surfaces and remove any spills and stains. Also, sweep the floor and empty your trash bins to prevent pest infestations and odors. Generally speaking, you must clean the inside of your canvas after every camping season.

3. Inspect Seams & Seals

Check the seals and seams of your pop-up camper every six months or so to see that they are watertight. Using a good-quality silicone sealant can help you secure your rig and all your belongings in it.

4. Check Tire Pressure

You’ll want to maintain your camper's tires the same way you service those on any other vehicle. Check the tires regularly for signs of uneven tread wear, bald patches, cracks in the sidewall, or embedded objects in the treads. Repair or replace any bad tires before you hit the road.

Also, use a tire pressure gauge to check the pressure on your tires and ensure it is as per your manufacturer’s recommendations.

5. Treat Water Systems

If your pop-up camper has some form of water system, you’ll need to maintain it as well. If it has a freshwater line to hook up to a source at a campsite instead of a holding tank, you can use a detergent and sanitizer treatment to clean the hose and lines.

To clean your hose, lift one of its ends and add about 1.5 teaspoons of detergent along with enough water to fill it. Let the hose sit for an hour, and then flush it with clean water. You can use the same steps to sanitize it, too.

If your pop-up camper came with a tank, use the same products to clean and sanitize it. To find out the correct quantities of the products, refer to the packaging.
